Myers Park Presbyterian in Charlotte has been hosting youth groups for a number of years now in the CROSS (Charlotte Regional Outreach, Service, and Study) program. Our middle schoolers spend one weekend each spring serving in North Carolina and they’ve enjoyed a number of trips with CROSS. Each time our youth have participated they’ve returned with a better understanding of our responsibility as Christians to serve others and share God’s love. Our trip 2 weeks ago wasn’t any different!
Volunteering in the gardens at Friendship Farm was hard work! Pulling weeds, turning dirt, and preparing the land for planting kept the group busy for a few hours. All of the food grown at Friendship Farm is given to the local Meals on Wheels organization to fight hunger in the Charlotte area. After lunch, they headed to Samaritan House to play games and visit with residents. At Samaritan House homeless individuals are offered a safe and comfortable place to recuperate after hospitalization. Our youth loved getting to know the residents and hearing their stories!
Our middle school youth are exploring their gifts and discovering their passions. Missions trips are a place for them to grow and discover how God is calling them to get involved in the world. We are thankful for our group’s opportunity to be involved with CROSS!
