It has been nine years since we constructed the Memorial Courtyard. We want to give you an opportunity to reflect upon where we have been and what to look forward to. Many of you now have loved ones inurned there and so you have been frequent visitors to this place we hold dear. Others have purchased niches with an eye to the future. Even for those who currently have no specific affiliation, we hope you might use this special quiet garden from time to time to think, to pray, to commune with friends.
In fact, we think it is such a special place, we want to encourage its use for occasions of celebration, contemplation and community in addition to its more customary and obvious purpose. Be on the watch for notice of upcoming gatherings! We have some ideas but we welcome yours as well. What about Quarterly Coffee in the Courtyard?
Later this fall, we will make some modifications to the Courtyard plantings. Many elements have thrived- some so much so that we will replace a few that have matured beyond our expectations. We want to refresh the space, adding some perennials that will offer seasonal interest and color. Contact me if you would like to contribute to the effort- you may have in your garden the perennials we intend to add.
Maintenance for natural spaces is an ongoing effort. Currently we have established a small group of volunteers who will meet the first Wednesday monthly to carry out regular weeding, etc. As well, we would like to solicit groups to ‘adopt’ the Courtyard for a one-time maintenance Saturday in the spring or fall. Perhaps you, as an individual or group, might enjoy Courtyard gardening with friends!
Please consider whether you and your family want to join others who wish to be inurned or remembered either in the Columbarium itself or upon the Memorial Plaque. One of the greatest gifts we can give our families is to make plans for end of life. John Montague, our business administrator can discuss the particulars. Give him a call at the church office, 919-847-1913.
