The Committee for Social Justice

Everyone Matters

Why We Exist

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to live out our faith by seeking God’s justice, love, and mercy in the world. We strive to examine and challenge systems, practices, and attitudes that lead to discrimination, bias, prejudice, and oppression.

Through education, discussion, and Christ-centered action, we work to raise awareness of social concerns and encourage faithful responses that promote dignity, equity, and compassion for all.

The committee meets monthly on the first Monday at 7:00 pm, typically on Zoom. Contact the church office for details.

Our Initiatives

Immigration Issues Group

Guided by Jesus’ charge to welcome the stranger, the Immigration Issues Group actively supports our immigrant neighbors with assistance and valuable resources, while advocating for just immigration laws and fair deportation procedures to uphold dignity and justice for all.

Gun Violence Prevention

As followers of Jesus, we believe every life bears God’s image—and we cannot turn away from the suffering and injustice caused by gun violence. Our faith calls us to pray and act: to seek peace, protect the vulnerable, and build a world where children and neighbors can live without fear.

Equitable Education

Working to advocate, educate, and pray for full funding of North Carolina public schools, the Education Issues Group believes every child deserves a quality education, no matter their county or economic situation. Yet school funding remains inadequate and uneven across the state.

Poverty Advocacy and Support

Curious, passionate, and humble, this group is dedicated to learning, educating, and advocating for better living conditions that allow all people to thrive. Focusing on living wage issues, it also explores ways to live out our Matthew 25 roots by caring for “the least of these.”
